On
Shri Satpal Ji Maharaj
The eldest son of
Paramsant Satgurudev Shri Hans Ji Maharaj, Shri Satpal Ji
Maharaj was born on 21st September 1951, at Kankhal, in the
holy town of Hardwar. His father's life was a saga of
selfless service and devotion to humanity, and of tireless
dedication to the ideal of awakening man's dormant
spirituality by revealing the Divine Knowledge to all who
sincerely asked for it.
Birth into the family of an enlightened Yogi, combined with
his own inherent tendencies, facilitated his spiritual
development from a very early age. By the age of two he was
already sitting for long periods in deep meditation, and he
would encourage others to do so, too. His father once
commented that his consciousness, naturally drawn inward to
rest within itself, was to be coaxed outwards for the
spiritual benefit of others. Growing up in a spiritual
environment under the strict guidance of his father and
surrounded by mahatmas and devotees, he became a master of
the spiritual sciences at an early age.
When he was three years old, a huge procession through the
main streets of Delhi was arranged for him by his father.
Thousands of devotees and interested members of the public
participated. At one point, when a gigantic traffic jam
prevented the forward progress of the procession, little
Satpal Ji Maharaj himself stood up and gave the appropriate
directions to clear the way. Even at a tender age his innate
leadership and organising abilities manifested themselves.
Besides the spiritual training he received at home, he went
to school to acquire a formal education. From the very
beginning of his school life he showed keen interest in
science. Although quiet and reserved, he participated fully
in curricular and extra-curricular activities such as
debating and painting, for which he won prizes. Extremely
practical by nature, he would not accept anything until he
could verify it through objective analysis or personal
experience.
He is renowned for his self-discipline and fairness. Totally
devoted to his own Master, he demonstrated the path of
service in his own life. He never expects his disciples to
do anything which he himself has not done, and he doesn't
preach anything which he doesn't practice. His father passed
away in July 1966, bequeathing his mission and unfinished
work to his eldest son. Young Satpal Ji Maharaj took command
with his characteristic zeal and efficiency, and dedicated
himself to the task of fulfilling his father's dreams. He
never deviated from the ideals taught by Shri Hans Ji
Maharaj, no matter what the cost. His integrity and clarity
of vision, his noble character and patient effort have
earned him the respect of all sections of society.
Shri Satpal Ji Maharaj has taken his message of inspiration
and hope to the four corners of India and also abroad. Under
his auspices and guidance Manav Utthan Sewa Samiti is
promoting his spiritual and social work throughout India and
abroad.
On
Shri Hans Ji Maharaj
Born in the Himalayan District of Uttarakhand, Satguru
Shri Hans Ji Maharaj was destined to play an important role
in re-awakening the experience of true religion in the
hearts of millions of people throughout India, freeing them
from the blind faith in ritual and superstition which was
being perpetrated in the name of religion. He was a
magnetic personality. His very presence inspired confidence
and radiated an aura of love and peace. From early childhood
he had been inclined towards spirituality, so when he met
Swami Swarupanand, the saint who became his Spiritual
Teacher, he devoted himself totally and dived into the
infinite ocean of spiritual wisdom. His Guru declared, "I am
in Hans' heart, and he is in mine", and he became the
spiritual successor to Swami Swarupanand.
In the early days of his mission, Shri Hans Ji Maharaj
disseminated Spiritual Knowledge in Sind and Lahore. From
1930 he started teaching in Delhi, staying in a small room
near the huge Delhi Cloth Mills. Interest in his path spread
among employees of the mill. His approach was not at all
traditional. He was unique and so were his methods. When the
cloth mill employees expressed their desire to see God but
wondered how it would be possible for workers like
themselves who had no time for elaborate rituals and
pilgrimages, Shri Maharaj Ji told them that true meditation
is something that can be done anytime, in all circumstances
and by anyone.
He took a personal interest in each and every disciple. He
shared their joys and sorrows, and taught them to steer
themselves on the Path of Righteousness. He taught the
deepest esoteric mysteries of religion in a very
down-to-earth fashion. He made spirituality a living,
practical reality in the lives of his devotees. He
never had any intention of establishing a sect or religion.
His teaching transcended all caste, colour and creed. Like
all great saints, his message was for good of all. He would
say, "Who can be more merciful than a Guru? The Guru is the
very ocean of mercy".
He made his disciples understand the need of first living
religion and then talking about it. Thus, religion became a
way of life for his disciples, and Shri Hans Ji Maharaj was
himself the living embodiment of what he taught.
He preached the path advocated by the great souls of all
times and lands, and urged humanity to follow their
footsteps. He stressed the importance of not just glorifying
the saints but striving to attain the state which they had
reached.
His death in July 1966, was a great loss to mankind, but the
torch of Knowledge which he lit can never be extinguished.
His noble work is being carried on by his son, the present
Spiritual Master Shri Satpal Ji Maharaj, the founder of
Manav Utthan Sewa Samiti, which is spreading the same
Knowledge throughout India and the
world.
