Satguru or Perfect Master

Krishna

Satguru: True dispeller of darkness and revealer of light.

Perfect Master: English equivalent of Satguru. A Perfect Master is one who teaches the perfect Knowledge and love of God. Christ and Buddha were Perfect Masters in their own times.

Prem Rawat claims he is the latest in the line of Perfect Masters, also known as Avatars which are incarnations (bodily manifestations) of the Ultimate Supreme Being. There is always a Perfect Master incarnated on the planet and great religious leaders such as Jesus Christ, Abraham, Krishna and Rama were also Perfect Masters and each in their own time revealed the exact same 'Knowledge' as that taught by Prem Rawat. The Perfect Masters and their 'Knowledge' are the source of and inspiration for all true religion.

The Perfect Master's purpose is to reveal the sacred Knowledge to humankind and offer salvation from suffering. There is only ever one Perfect Master. As Prem Rawat said in an interview with John Wood of the Boston Globe Newton, Massachusetts, August 3, 1973: 'You see - here I want to be very frank - people come to me and ask me about this, and they say, "What's your opinion about a Perfect Master? Is there one, is there two?" I tell them my opinion, that there is only one Perfect Master. Because perfectness is one, not two, not three So, there is one Perfect Master in this world. And because he is perfect, that's it. He is perfect. You just can't divide perfect. I think it's funny saying that; it's just as funny as saying that the car had tires on top, and car had tires on the bottom. That's just like saying there are two Perfect Masters. You are just dividing perfectness into two - you can't do that. There has to be one Perfect Master, because perfectness is infinite, you just can't divide it. It has to be one.'

Only followers of a living Perfect Master can experience true spiritual experience, they can 'know God' through personal experience rather than just believe in God. Prem Rawat reveals an experience and not a set of beliefs or a religion. As Prem Rawat's father and previous Perfect Master stated unequivocally:

"Sublime devotion, however, comes from implicit faith and confidence in the Satguru of the time, and it must be clearly understood that only He who can bestow God-vision instantaneously within oneself is the Satguru of the time, and no one else. In reality, He is God incarnate."

For the first time in human history we now have direct testimony from the living Perfect Master of the incarnation of the Perfect Master.

On the day Shri Maharaj Ji left his body, a disciple tearfully begged to speak once more with his master. The young Guru Maharaj Ji had replied, "Shri Maharaj Ji has only left his body, but his spiritual body is still here, and he will appear again after a few days." At the time, he did not fully realize that this power was within him.

"I went home (from school) and everyone was, weeping. I was just sitting there not weeping and something began to happen to me. I began to feel that I am not this body; that I could not move these lips. I always thought that the soul would leave by the mouth, but my mouth was shut. Still I felt like I was leaving my body and my soul was everywhere going out. And this voice came to me saying, 'You are he, you are the one to continue.'

"Then I puzzled over the voice. Thirteen days later, I was doing pranam to my Father's ashes and bones. You know, in India they burn the bodies and thirteen days later you go and collect the ashes. I bent down to touch the ashes, the voice came: 'You are he. You are the one to go and give this to the world."'

On August 1st, Guru Maharaj Ji, eight years old, stood in front of the thousands of devotees present at his father's funeral. The voice came again, saying: "This is the last I will tell you. You are he. You must take this Knowledge out to the world.1

Maharaji has defined the correct behaviour towards the living Perfect Master: "If you have a Perfect Master you can’t do anything but worship him every day of your life. You tell me, if you really have that Perfect Master in your life, what can you do except to worship him every day. Get up and worship him, pray, know, surrender. Every day of your life!" Maharaji has been quite specific as to the role of Jesus Christ in this lineage of incarnated Perfect Masters.

In his Christmas Satsang in 1980 in front of 4 or 500 premies he said:

But what was the meaning to like the devotees of that time of the Perfect Master, what were the meanings to them? And it was incredible because there was this point you know where Peter just got up and said to Jesus, he said "You are, you know, you are the Son of God, you are the Savior" and Jesus turned to Peter and said "You know, you're really lucky, you're really fortunate. And obviously no mortal man has told you this but this is very fortunate for you to understand that, it's very fortunate for you to realize that." And all of a sudden the, the importance shifts, the emphasis shifts from gifts and Christmas trees and Christmas lights and everything and for a devotee centers around being saved, it centers around to have that devotion, to have that love. All of a sudden it takes on a meaning that's real, that's substantial, that has truly a meaning because is a meaning. It has meant something, it has given that person, that devotee, a hope in life. In the Divine Times, in 1978, page 33 an article explained how the luxurious lifestyle Maharaji deserves and his followers have donated for him was ordained by Jesus as quoted in the Gospel of John 12:3.

Judas was shocked when Mary Magdalen poured her precious ointment onto the feet of Christ. He told her that it could have been sold, and the money distributed to the poor. But Christ said that she had done well, that the poor were always around, but that he would not be with his disciples much longer. In a similar way, people question the disciples of Guru Maharaj Ji because we give him tiny presents, cars, aeroplanes, flowers. Yet somehow the message manages to get across to those who need to hear it.

We are so fortunate at the present time in being able to anoint Maharaji's feet with our tears of joy in the sacrament of darshan.
